WORLD YWCA

It all started in 1875 when the movement formed on prayer and service united under the name of Young Women's Christian Association and adopted a Blue Triangle as its symbol.In 1894,the World YWCA was established to co-ordinate and help the various national YWCA's.Its constitution gave it the status of a global movement of women.

Today it is the largest membership based women's organization in the world. It unites and speaks for up to 25 million women involved with its activities. It works at national,local and community levels. It is committed to empower women to fulfill their role in their communities, nation and world.

YWCA OF INDIA

In India the history of YWCA dates back to 1875 when the first local association was established in Bombay, followed by the YWCA of India in the year 1896.It is affiliated to the world YWCA movement. Its primary function is to organize, develop and unite the local YWCAs in India. Today there are 82 local associations working for the cause of upliftment of women.

YWCA OF DELHI

The YWCA of Delhi, working at the local level was affiliated to the national YWCA movement in 1912. It aims to bring together women and young girls regardless of cast,creed,race,nationality or social and economic status through a variety of services.

The YWCA of Delhi is rooted in the Christian faith and subscribing to the basis as stated in Article II of its constitution, endeavors to promote the full development of women and girls irrespective of race,culture and creed. It seeks to develop a membership that is responsive through service to the changing needs of the whole community in a changing world.
